LACY KUEHL
SPOKESPERSON /DRIVER / MUSHER
Sarasota, Florida / Age 18
Hello, my name is Lacy Kuehl, and I'm proud to hail from Florida. 1st generation in motorsports. I am a dedicated Driver and Musher, as well as a passionate spokesperson for Diabetes Awareness. Since 2014, I have been actively racing to raise awareness about the symptoms of diabetes and to honor both the survivors of Diabetic Ketoacidosis and the memory of those who have passed away from this condition.
In 2010 my baby brother Rocco lost his life to DKA (Diabetic Ketoacidosis) 2 weeks after his first birthday due to being misdiagnosed with a virus. Diabetes doesn't run in my family, my parents have heard of it, but they had no idea of how serious it was.
Losing my brother was devastating to our family, and it is now my mission to ensure that parents and children worldwide know the symptoms and what to look for so that a diagnosis can be made sooner. No parent should have to lose a child from diabetes, and a child shouldn't have to lose a parent from diabetes.
I began my mushing journey with Team Petit, racing in Alaska for the Jr. Iditarod on February 25th, 2023. Throughout this incredible experience, I spread awareness about the symptoms of diabetes. This opportunity, provided by Nicholas Petit and Scott Janssen, was a fantastic opening for me and the Drive for Diabetes Awareness campaign. Check out the highlights from my adventure and see where this journey has taken us!
